| In a world filled with terrifying giants known as Titans, the last remnants of humanity reside behind the three great walls of Maria, Rose and Sina. The young Eren Yaeger, not content to live his life penned up behind the walls like human cattle, is determined to join the Scouts - an elite force tasked with taking the fight to the Titans outside of the walls. Though humanity has thus far remained safe behind the indestructible walls, the most important day of Eren's life is about to unfold. | ||

| As Eren's home Shiganshina district is overrun, the survivors make their way to Wall Maria, the outermost of the three great walls. The unthinkable happens again as another unique Titan strikes the gate of the inner wall - compromising all of the land once protected by Wall Maria. The survivors are forced to make a desperate attempt to retake the lost resources and farmland in a desperate bid, beginning the bleakest of times experienced behind the wall. | ||

| 3. | A Dim Light Amid Despair: Humanity's Comeback | 2013.04.21 |
| Two years later, Eren joins the Cadet Corps under drill instructor Keith Sadies along with Armin and Mikasa. Being part of the unfortunate few who have ever seen a Titan, they are able to form a bond with the other cadets who shared the experience. To fight Titans, the cadets must master the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear; a device that requires precision balance. Despite Eren's spirit and burning hatred of Titans, he will wash out of boot camp immediately if he is unable to at least stay upright during the training simulation. | ||

| Two years later once again, the cadets have become competent candidates for one of the three branches of the army. Each student must decide which branch they wish to serve as they complete their final training: the Scouts, the Garrison, or the Military Police. Though they are in the top of the class and have the opportunity to attain a comfortable position within the Military Police, Eren's resolve holds firm and he eagerly announces his intention to join the Scouts. | ||

| Once again, the Colossal Titan makes an appearance but this time Eren is not a helpless child. A hasty defense is organized and the cadets endure a true trial by fire in their first encounter with Titans. | ||

| In a repeat of the events four years earlier at Wall Maria, the survivors attempt to flee further inward to escape the compromised Trost District. As she participates in the defense, Mikasa thinks back to her first meeting with Eren and how she came to live with him and his family. | ||

| The situation worsens as Titans surround the supply depot; effectively cutting of the army's ability to refuel their Omni-Directional Mobility Devices. A reckless Mikasa leads the charge to retake the depot after learning Eren's fate from Armin but quickly runs out of fuel herself. Just when things are looking as bad as they possibly could, another unique Titan makes an appearance. | ||

| The odd Titan continues its rampage against its own kind and the cadets use the distraction to their advantage. Armin's plan is soon put into action to liberate the Titan infested lower levels of the depot where the supplies are stored. | ||

| The elite Scout regiment under Captain Levi is deployed to retake the Trost District. Meanwhile, the terrified Garrison commander Kitts Woermann demands answers from Eren that he is unable to give and is more than eager to shoot first. In this crucial moment, Eren witnesses a partial flashback of his father and his command to retake the outer Wall Maria. | ||

| Eren's newfound ability leaves the onlookers stunned as he unleashes it to save his friends. While they are understandably terrified, Armin must use a few choice words to save their lives a second time. With the situation rapidly unraveling, Commander Dot Pyxis arrives on the scene. | ||

| Pyxis is no fool and recognizes the enormous potential Eren's ability has if it is properly harnessed by humanity. Several failed attempts have been previously made by the Army engineers to move the great boulder from the breach four years earlier to plug the hole in Wall Rose's gate. A plan is devised to use Eren's titan ability to carry the great stone to its destination - with his fate, and humanity's fate riding on the outcome. | ||

| Eren unleashes his power that he barely understands and enters a berserk state, nearly killing Mikasa before falling down exhausted. Eren's fellow cadets must now make a desperate attempt to defend him from the advancing Titans long enough for Armin to get him to safety. | ||

| 13. | Primal Desire: The Struggle for Trost | 2013.06.30 |
| After a close encounter with total disaster, the mission is back on track but not without a high price. The section of Wall Rose may be secure once again but work must begin immediately to clear out the stranded Titans and clean up the remaining corpses. Levi, the Captain of the Survey Corps Special Operation Squad, finally makes an appearance to save Eren from Titan and human alike. | ||

| The trial to determine Eren's threat or benefit to humanity begins. Eren rightly feels the prosecution is unjustified and Levi wastes no time in using the opportunity to display just how much of a threat Eren truly poses. A new operation is also proposed as part of the deal. | ||

| 15. | Special Operations Squad: Eve of the Counterattack | 2013.07.21 |
| As a tag-a-long to Levi's Squad, Eren departs for the old Scout Regiment headquarters to begin the grueling mission of cleaning it to Levi's standards. This operation isn't just about housekeeping though - it is here that Levi and Hange hope to train Eren to control this unknown power of his. Eren makes the mistake of feigning interest in Hange's work and as a result is kept up all night listening to her findings concerning the two captured Titans from Wall Rose: Sawney and Bean. | ||

| 16. | What Needs to be Done Now: Eve of the Counterattack | 2013.07.28 |
| The day has finally arrived for all of the cadets to choose the division they will serve in: the Scouts, the Garrison, or the Military Police. Erwin, the commander of the Scouts, gives a cautionary speech at their ceremony for anyone who is considering joining his division. After wrestling with their own doubts and convictions, many still volunteer to serve in the Scouts in order to take the fight of humanity directly to the Titans, even though they would qualify for a comfortable position in the Military Police as top of the class. | ||

| 17. | Female Titan: The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission | 2013.08.04 |
The Scout Regiment's 57th Expedition beyond the walls begins, departing in long range scouting formation. Using strict placement of soldiers on horseback, they are able to communicate the position of Titans with the use of colored flares. With the inevitable encounter of Titans that cannot be avoided, Armin's group kills an abnormal and soon encounters for the first time ever - a female Titan. With a focus unseen before in a Titan, she dashes seemingly towards a specific target. When she wipes out most of the squad pursuing her and has Armin unhorsed, it is up to Reiner to attempt to save him this time. |

| The trio of Armin, Reiner and Jean find themselves stranded with only one horse and would be completely at the mercy of any Titans that would encounter them. Like an angel, Krista is able to find them with spare horses in tow. With the horde of Titans pursuing them, including the Female Titan, Levi takes his group including Eren into the Forest of Giant Trees. Doubt begins to form in their minds about Levi and Erwin's goals for this operation but they will learn for the first of many times here not to bet against Erwin's ambition. | ||

| Eren considers taking his Titan form to battle the unshakable Female Titan, but is asked by Levi's Squad to place his faith in their abilities. This sentiment is echoed in a flashback to his experiences meeting them at the old Scout Regiment's headquarters. | ||

| 20. | Erwin Smith: The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission | 2013.08.25 |
| With Erwin's clever trap bearing fruit, they quickly begin work to determine the Female Titan's identity. The true nature of this operation had to be kept secret because of the known element of a human spy working for the Titans. Just when progress is being made against her impenetrable crystal skin, she lets out a terrifying scream that attracts all Titans in the area directly to her. In a truly confusing display, the Titans begin to attack her and the Scouts alike. | ||

| 21. | Crushing Blow: The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission | 2013.09.01 |
| The Titans attacking weaken the restraints enough for the Female Titan to break free and vanishes. What appears to be another scout shows up in ODM gear and attacks Levi's Squad. Before they can even get their bearings on the situation, the traitor transforms once again into the Female Titan. The entire Squad is no match for this Titan who is able to move with human level intellect and Eren has no choice but to transform into his Titan form. | ||

| Mikasa and Levi aggressively follow the Female Titan to rescue Eren while the rest of the Scouts make a hasty retreat back to the city. Echoing the scene from the first episode, the Scouts make another defeated parade through the city gates. | ||

| Armin devises a plan to sneak Eren out of the city before the corrupt government in the central district can get their hands on him. In order to make this plan a success, he needs help from Annie, who opted to join the Military Police at the graduation ceremony. | ||

| 24. | Mercy: Assault on Stohess | 2013.09.22 |
Unable to lure the traitor down into the underground passage, she turns into the Female Titan fight in the middle of the Stohess district. With Eren, Mikasa and Armin trapped in the tunnel, she begins to cave it in with her foot. Mikasa and Armin split up trying to lure the Female Titan away while Eren is unable to transform due to his conflicted feelings towards Annie. Erwin and Hange's backup plan is sprung and holds long enough for Eren to regain his conviction. |

| The Female Titan continues to flee but Eren's rage and willpower prove to be enough of a match for her, unlike their last encounter. | ||
